FILAN WEDDING
FILAN WEDDING BIO
Shane Filan chose December 28th 2004 for his
festive winter wedding to long-term sweetheart Gillian Walsh, because the
Christmas period has special meaning for the Westlife singer "Because I proposed to Gillian on Christmas day it was an idea to
get married at the same time of year." The couple married at the 13th century Ballintubber Abbey in County Mayo,
Ireland, and celebrated at the beautiful Ashford Castle. Gillian arrived at
the cathedral in a festive Cinderella-style white stagecoach, decked with
red flowers and green foliage to echo the time of year. The bride wore a strapless gown, and the groom, who plumped for a classic
ivory suit, said afterwards: "Gillian felt like a princess and looked like
one too."

INFO
Guests arrived at Ashford Castle to an all you can drink bar.
Before the meal was served, the curtains on the marquee where it was being
held were pulled back to reveal a stunning view of the lake at night. A laser
display was set up to show it off to full effect while people dined.
In
keeping with the Christmas theme, Ashford Castle was decked in coloured lights.
There was a five course meal served up to all the guests.
The chocolates on the menu were iced with Shane and Gill's initials.
Each table was named after a famous Christmas song.
Each place setting had a CD at it called "Shane and Gillian's Wedding Day" for
the guests to take home, which had Christmas songs on it to remind them of the
wedding.
Speeches were given by Finbarr, Shane's brother and best man; Peter Filan,
Shane's father; Michael Walsh, Gillian's Father and Shane himself.
During his speech, Shane sang 'Amazed' by Lonestar to Gillian.
The first dance was to (I've Had) The Time Of My Life by Bill Medley and
Jennifer Warnes.
Shane and Gillian led the guests out into the grounds at 1am in the morning to
treat them to a huge fireworks display seen for miles around.
The cake was a 2 yard long caramel and chocolate affair, and was decorated
with a replica model of Shane, Gillian and their top-table guests.
