You rushed off a couple of days ago to a register office in Wicklow for a
civil ceremony. - OK Magazine, August 2003
Nicky: "We wanted to get married in France for as long as I can remember. We've been here so many times, and it's a beautiful country. But the legal requirements on getting married here mean you need two ceremonies - a civil one and a religious one. We had planned to do the civil one in London, but then we thought 'we don't want to do it abroad, let's do it in Ireland'.
"As far as we are concerned we are getting married on Saturday. Saturday is the day of our fairytale wedding, and we don't care what anyone thinks, Georgina in my eyes is not my wife until we are married on Saturday. Look, no wedding rings!"
Georgina: "It was over in five minutes. Nicky was wearing a red baseball cap and a T-shirt, and I was wearing a jeans. I didn't see it as a special day - every bride wants to feel like a princess on her wedding day, and that certainly wasn't it. I am a bride on Saturday."

WEDDING
'We loved every minute of it - we've been planning our wedding day since we
were kids. We kept looking into each other's eyes just amazed that it was
happening at last'
The magnificent Romanesque church of St Pierre et St Paul was packed with more than 400 family and friends. It was a family affair, this most Irish weddings in France, when Nicky Byrne, of legendary boy band Westlife, married the Irish Prime Minister's daughter Georgina Ahern. The 410 guests were almost all family - there were dozen of cousins - and friends, but only close friends, some of whom also happened to be rock stars, or play football professionally. There was not a politician in sight, save for the father of the bride, Bertie Ahern, the Prime Minister of Ireland, that Taoiseach to give him his correct title. And they had all come to celebrate in true Irish style.

Having gone out with Georgina for eight years, what
took you so long to propose? - Hello Magazine, June 2003
Nicky: "To be honest, I needed to know that the
time was right for both of us. Three years ago we bought a house just outside
Dublin, not knowing how long the band would last or how successful it would
become. We settled in, but both of us knew it wasn’t really where we wanted to
stay for the rest of our lives. Realistically, we knew we wanted to move back to
Malahide, where Georgina grew up. Then just before Christmas we splashed out on
this beautiful three-storey, five-bedroom Georgian house there which is
everything we’ve ever dreamed of. It was funny because I’d been presenting a
Christmas show on Belfast radio with Shane the day before and we'd started to
talking about weddings. He asked me: ‘When are you thinking about getting
married?’, but I avoided the question. I knew nothing of his plans and he knew
nothing of mine. But we both ended up getting engaged on the same day -
Christmas Day!"
