RUI RUES WESTLIFE December 2000
Christmas number one contender Rui Da Silva has marked the release of his track with a scathing attack on chart rivals Westlife. The Portuguese DJ and producer first released Touch Me on his own Lisbon-based label, Kismet, before it was picked up by high-profile DJs such as Paul Oakenfold. Arista release the track on Monday 18 December, the same week as Westlife put out their Christmas record What Makes A Man.
Da Silva told Music Week magazine: "Westlife is a product that's very well conceived and very well manufactured. Touch Me is for people who love music. Westlife is something completely different." The DJ said Eminem's Stan should be number one "because it's such a beautiful song."
William Hill put Westlife as current favourites with odds of 1/3. Eminem is just behind at 7/2. Da Silva gets odds of 12/1.
Meanwhile, the Irish band's Bryan McFadden has dropped the strongest hint yet he may marry Atomic Kitten Kerry Katona. Bryan heard Dane Bowers singing From The Heart, by his old band Another Level, at a Smash Hits Tour party in Sheffield. The Irish singer said: "I want this song at my wedding with Kerry. I want Dane to sing it." Bryan and Kerry are celebrating their first anniversary.
