Westlife flying into Taiwan from Hong Kong on Sunday

Irish pop band Westlife is scheduled to fly in from Hong Kong Sunday morning for their already sold-out concert in Taiwan that evening. The group was originally set to arrive in Taipei on Saturday. An extra performance date in Hong Kong has caused a delay in their arrival in Taiwan. As part of the band's Asia tour which includes stops in the Philippines, Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore and Indonesia, the much-expected concert is to be staged at the Taipei International Convention Center at 7:30 p.m. Sunday night.

This will be the pop band 's second performance in Taipei since they last visited Taiwan six years ago. This time, the musicians, promoting their new album "Face to Face," have promised to delight all Taiwan fans with a highly proficient performance which has been dreamed of since 2000. Their latest album, released last year, has sold more than 20,000 copies in Taiwan.

With seven multi-platinum albums, Westlife has sold about 40 million albums worldwide. Their musical achievements included winning "Record of the Year" four times in a row in England. From 1999 to 2005, the band has had 13 number one singles and is the only band in UK chart history to have had their first seven singles go straight to number one. The Irish band's successes began in 1999 when their second single, "If I Let You Go," hit the top spot in the charts. "Flying Without Wings," in 2000, and "My Love," in 2003, were among many of their chart-topping hits over the years. Their No. 1 singles total ranks fourth-highest in the UK, behind music history-making artists Elvis Presley, the Beatles and Cliff Richard.

Tickets for the Sunday concert range from NT$1,000 to NT$3,500. For

Rob & Elton Up For X
EXCLUSIVE They'll help finalists By Lara Gould TV Reporter

ROBBIE Williams, Elton John and Westlife have been signed up to coach the X Factor finalists. Judges Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne struck a secret deal to recruit the famous names to the Saturday night show. Heart-throb Robbie, a huge X Factor fan, will coach the 16-25s. Legend Elton John - whose first hit was way back in 1971 - will advise the over 25s. And Irish band Westlife, who are managed by Louis, will pass on tips to the groups. The stars will join when the show goes live next month. An insider said: "Simon said he wanted this series to be the biggest and best yet. This is a massive coup." Other stars who will make guest appearances on the ITV1 talent search include Robbie's former band Take That, American singer Mariah Carey and Simon's group Il Divo.

The Sunday Mirror can also reveal who each judge will look after - Simon will handle the 16- to 25-year-olds, Louis will take the over-25s and Sharon will take care of the groups. Our source said: "The judges all pretend to take it lightly, but the truth is they are all desperate to win." - LAST year's X Factor winner Shayne Ward has had surgery to remove nodules from his throat at a clinic in Los Angeles. He has been told not to talk for two weeks as he recovers.

He's Kian to help
EXCLUSIVE X Factor judge Louis brings in Westlife star as talent aid And it could launch a solo career By Jon Wise

X FACTOR judge Louis Walsh has hired Westlife heartthrob Kian Egan to help pick his acts - amid suggestions that he plans to launch the singer's solo career. Officially Kian, 26, will act as a talent spotter for music mogul Louis, 54. But an insider said: "Louis has a real soft spot for the Westlife lads. Westlife could be past their sell-by date and by giving him exposure on X-Factor, Louis may be hoping to gauge his appeal with the public.

"If he proves to be a hit it would be a perfect chance for him to try some solo material." Fellow judge Simon Cowell has been taking advice on selection from his ex, the singer Sinitta, for two years. The source said: "Kian is there to do the same for Louis. And it could be profitable for him." Contestant Nikita won over the judges last night with a song she sang at her mother's funeral. Nikita, 17, from Glasgow, performed Bonnie Rait's Dimming Of The Day. Simon told her: "It's one of the rare times someone comes into the room and sings absolutely from the heart." But he told Karen Hunter, 21, and Carmen Cairns, 20: "You are utterly useless."

Westlife to come 'face to face' with local fans

The Irish boy band Westlife will give their first live performance in Korea at Jamsil Indoor Stadium, south-eastern Seoul, on Sept. 6. The long-awaited concert was originally scheduled for December 2003 but was cancelled at the last moment due to discord between the band and the organizer. The upcoming concert is a part of their tour titled "Face to Face Asian Tour," which began in April. All of their concerts have been sold out.

Since the band's debut in 1998, with the song "Swear It Again," they have been the biggest pop act to ever come out of Ireland. They have sold 35 million albums worldwide.

Although they have not yet managed to break the U.S. market (the only Westlife hit popular in America is "Flying Without Wings," which has become well known through "American Idol" winner Ruben Studdard), they have had 13 No. 1's on the UK Chart, surpassed only by The Beatles, Elvis Presley and Cliff Richard.
