Westlife's Nicky: Its great to be a dad
WESTLIFE'S Nicky Byrne has swapped nightclubs for night feeds -
and admitted he couldn't be happier. The 28-year-old singer, who described the
birth of his identical twins Rocco and Jay as a "magical experience", is
relishing his new role as a father. His wife Georgina went into premature labour
and the boys were born by Caesarean section on April 20.
Nicky said: "The birth of the babies has been the most magical experience of our
lives. They're wonderful, the icing on the cake and I can't believe they're all
mine and Georgina's. I just cannot put it into words how much I love them and
tell you what it feels like being a daddy." But the singer admitted things were
difficult when the newborn twins had to be kept in intensive care for several
weeks.
The couple, who have been together since the age of 16, took it in turns to keep
a vigil by their cots. The beaming dad said: "We thought we'd never get them
home to welcome them into their new environment, to love them, cuddle them and
do everything for them. The hospital staff were magnificent but it was so
difficult for us to watch them in ICU, and although they were perfectly healthy,
just born a bit early, we knew that we had to keep an eye on them. Georgina and
I were there with them every single day and night to feed them and play with
them and, of course, we kept telling them we loved them and wanted to bring them
home. The day finally came when Jay was allowed home but they had to keep Rocco,
our little fighter, in for another week."
Nicky may be a superstar dad, adored by millions of fans but this does not stop
him getting his hands dirty. The star told Maternity and Infant magazine he
changes his fair share of nappies to ensure he splits the workload with
Georgina. He said: "The nurses taught us on a daily basis how to handle them,
bathe them, change their nappies and feed them. But when we got them home it was
another thing entirely. We are a dab hand at it now and we love every minute of
it."

Brian's style is clamped
JUST when things seem to start going right for him, something goes wrong. Fresh
from his stint as a judge on Charity You're a Star, Brian was in London when
someone got fed up with his parking and called in the dreaded traffic wardens.
And from the look of our pictures, this has got to be some of the worse parking
we've ever seen.
His gas-guzzling Cadillac Escalade was parked diagonally on a curb, on double
yellow lines AND blocking an emergency access. But it gets worse - his tax disc
is three years out of date. Someone in Barnes, south west London obviously had
enough of the eyesore blocking their road and alerted traffic officials who
raced down to plant a ticket on the big black 4x4. Fortunately for the former
Westlife crooner - he has spies in the area who tipped him off, and he raced to
the scene on a nippy moped and, with lashings of charm and a fat cheque book,
secured his vehicle's release. And from the smiles on Brian's face he doesn't
seem to mind, well not too much anyway.

Westlife Live in Concert in Bitts Park
It might have rained on the four Irish superstars but the crowd could not get enough of the World's best boy band in action. They have played some of the biggest arenas going - and can now add Bitts Park to their list. Westlife did not fail to disappoint, the 15,000 fans who endured the rain to watch them in Carlisle last night.
The Irish heart-throbs - Mark Feehily, Kian Egan, Nicky Byrne and Shane Filan - took a berak from the studio especially to perform in the city and were eager to please. They flew in on Eddie Stobart owner Andrew Tinkler's private jet and flew immediately back to London after the gig. Speaking as they made their way towards the stage, Kian said: "Tonight is a one-off show. We finished our tour back in April. We are just going to be going out on stage and singing some of our biggest hits. Hopefully everyone out there will enjoy it as much as we do."
And if the reaction of the crowd as the world's biggest boy band took to the stage was anything to go by, it certainly was. After all, it takes a lot to get thousands of soaking wet Cumbrians - male and female, young and old - dancing and swaying on a Sunday night. Some hardy fans had travelled from across Europe - with one banner boasting "Germany loves Westlife" - and the verdict was that it was well worth the trip. The crowd went wild as the boys, dressed in smart blue suits, took to the stage as the heavens opened and started with When You're Looking Like That. They were just as excited when it was followed up by My Love, Swear It Again, Mandy then Uptown Girl. Unbreakable unfortunately proved to be a rather ironic title for their next song when Shane forgot the words and was full of apologies to the crowd, who helped the boys get back on track. If I Let You Go and Flying Without Wings followed before Mark revealed to the crowd that he had stayed with friends in Carlisle the previous night and thought the city was "a cool place".
The lads were perched on their trademark stools as they sang You
Raise Me Up to round-off their set. Chants of "Westlife, Westlife, Westlife" and
"We want moe" brought them back out to wind-up with World of Our Own.
Fireworks illuminated the skies as Westlife left the stage. The big question on
everyone's lips was, however, which big names will follow them to Carlisle?
