Huge crowds gather to see Shane open store - and it’s a case of deja-vu for the Westlife star

THE last time Westlife singer Shane Filan opened the doors of this premises it was the start of a fashion store for him and his older sister Mairead. That was Wednesday, October 16, 2002 when the doors of Morgan were opened on Castle Street. Huge crowds waited for hours to see the Westlife star. Right throughout the day Shane spent his time signing autographs and posing for photographs with fans both old and young. And interestingly before it became the Morgan fashion house, Shane’s parents Mai and Peter ran it as the Carleton Café for over 30 years.

Now, over four years on, and Shane is back again to open the same doors, this time for a new business, Centra. A few months ago, the Filans moved its Morgan franchise over to the Quayside Shopping Centre. This left the way open for a new business to occupy the vacated premises on Castle Street. Over the past number of months, Cosgroves of Centra have been busily preparing to open their new store offering customers on this side of town a new service. Westlife recently finished a run at the Point Theatre in Dublin. Now the band is taking a rest after their hectic schedule. Shane will turn 28 on July 5. And on Monday, July 23, Shane's daughter Nicole will celebrate her second birthday. Shane and wife Gillian refused all offers of photographic deals when Nicole was born and when they got married. Floods of offers are expected again as Nicole turns two. But, Shane has adamantly stated in the past that he will not agree to any deals from magazines for photographs of his family.

Kian & Jodi Surf Up A Treat

WESTLIFE star Kian Egan and his TV babe girlfriend Jodi Albert are going into business together by launching a beach juice bar. The millionaire singer is building a smoothie shack at Strandhill beach in his hometown of Sligo for surfers to hang out at during the summer. Surf-mad Kian is due to open the doors to the joint next week and he has promised to be a hands-on boss by regularly popping in with Jodi to work behind the counter.

Kian, 27, told the Irish Daily Mirror: "I've wanted to do something like this for a long time and I'm really excited. Jodi and I will both be serving up the drinks on the opening day but we'll be popping in regularly over the summer to help out. I love surfing at Strandhill and I always thought the one thing missing was a good place to hang out and enjoy a juice drink. It will be open throughout the summer months." On the menu will be special recipes invented by Jodi and Kian including energy-boosting fruit blasts and nutritious power shakes. A top team of designers have been hired to give the bar an ultra-modern and hip feel.

Kian is the latest member of the band to invest his money in a business project outside the pop world. Bandmate Shane Filan runs his own property development company in Sligo which has built more than 50 homes and is planning to expand to other hot locations around Ireland. Kian added: "I love spending my summer surfing - it really gets me relaxed after working hard with Westlife. And I love going out with my mates and hitting the waves. Having the juice bar there will make it easier to spend more time at the beach and hang out. Hopefully everyone will come along and try it out for themselves."

Westlife star Nicky proudly introduces his twin sons

Sleeping soundly in their matching blue outfits, Ireland's most famous newborns Rocco and Jay took their first major photocall in their stride. The twin boys were lovingly held in the arms of thrilled parents Westlife star Nicky Byrne and his wife Georgina Ahern while her father, the Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, beamed with pride.

The boys have only recently been able to join their parents in their home in Malahide, just north of Dublin, as they needed special care after being born by caesarean section six weeks early on April 20. First-time dad Nicky, who married Georgina three years ago in France, now has the next few months to enjoy quality time with his sons before beginning work on a new album in early August.

Shortly after their birth the ecstatic 28-year-old revealed he would love them to follow in his musical footsteps rather than politics like their grandfather. "When Georgina was pregnant I used to sing to her and now the boys are born I am still singing to them," said Nicky, who is clearly hoping his talent rubs off on the duo.

Rocco's middle name, Bertie, is in honour of the Irish prime minister, while Jay Nick was named after Nicky's dad. "I am sure Bertie will babysit his two grandchildren, he is well capable… there is no better man for caring for the two babies," says the boyband star, who enjoys a close relationship with his famous father-in-law.

Little Rocco and Jay are the latest additions to the Westlife family. Nicky's bandmate Shane Filan has a young daughter, Nicole, with wife Gillian, while former group member Brian McFadden has two daughters, Molly and Lily-Sue, with former wife Kerry Katona.
