The Fashion Police

Britney in a tracksuit, Chris Martin in student chic, sometimes pop stars just dont have a clue when it comes to looking their best. Fashion stylist Sonja Mohlich sees who hits the top in the fashion chart.

WESTLIFE: ' This look is a bad example of Westlife because it is for their Frank Sinatra album. They have a good style but then again it's very much what the record company want them to look like. Even when they are not on duty they look smart. They can afford it, and and they're always wearing the best labels and the latest looks.'

He said: "They thought it might be a head thing." McFadden says his "impulsive, last minute" decision to walk out came  about due to his depression about being in the band. He said: "A lot of the stuff annoyed me - covers and cabaret songs."

The star tells Weekend magazine denies he is trying to be another Robbie Williams. He said: "I don't want to be like anybody. I want to be me. I want  to do commercial rock."

Star in her eyes is Westlife's Shane

As 12-year-old Charlotte Greogory turned around to find Westlife singer Shane Filan sitting beside her, mum Sandy had tears in her eyes. The day when the youngster met her idol was extra-special because  Charlotte was born with Down's syndrome and her mother thought she  would never see this moment.

Sandy Gregory and husband Mike, from Lincoln, did not know their daughter had Down's syndrome until she was born because, at 34, Sandy had been too young to be tested. She said: "I used to know a lad when I was a child who had Down's  syndrome and my first thought was 'She's one of those thick kids.'

"But Down's syndrome children are not at all stupid." The mother-of-four said she was initially told Charlotte would not  reach the age of five and would never talk or walk. "Charlotte is  nearly 15 and she can talk the hind legs off a donkey," Sandy said.

The grandmother-of-nine admitted the first year was hard as the tot was in and out of hospital. She said: " She stopped breathing on me and all sorts, it was  horrendous." But since then, the family have not looked back. Charlotte attends a mainstream school in Lincoln and loves her time there. Sandy said: "The school always comments on how polite she is." From September she will spend a day a week at St Christopher's  School-for children with moderate learning difficulties-to learn cooking and other life skills.

She is a typical teenager and her bedroom is full of Westlife posters and memorabilia. The youngster also loves bowling and her mother said her 15th  birthday in October would definitely involve a trip to the bowling alley. She said looking after Charlotte was a 24-hour-a-day job but she  would not change it for the world.

"If I could have guaranteed that my next child would also have Down's syndrome when I was younger, then I would have had another baby. Charlotte is adorable and so loving." Sandy's daughter Lynn, who is expecting her fourth child in  September, has chosen not to have tests for Down's syndrome during  any of her pregnancies.

Sandy's advice to other parents who give birth to a child with Down's syndrome is not to listen to people's preconceptions.

"The only thing I would have changed was other people's  attitudes," she said. "When she was very small people would look into her pram and not  know what to say. It was as though they thought they were going to catch something." She added: "People also stare. It doesn't bother Charlotte but it  does upset me. "I want to say: 'Why are you staring?' She is just  like any other child-she just has extra-special needs." Her other piece of advice for parents is to treat a youngster with  Down's syndrome as they would any other child. But she says the family try to make the most of every days as they  do not know how long their daughter has left.

"But then you could say that about any of your children," she said. She added that whatever happened, one of her greatest memories would  be the moment when the teenager met Shane Filan. She said: "We didn't tell her and just sat in a big room backstage  and when she turned around she was looking at him.

"Her big sister and I had tears in our eyes and, for once, Charlotte  was lost for words."

We want Irish aid

IRELAND'S top music stars last night demanded a Live8 concert spectacular in Ireland. Huge names such as The Thrills, Snow Patrol, Westlife, Elton John and Meatloaf have told the Irish Daily Mirror they would be prepared to perform at the massive charity show to coincide with the London concert. A breathtaking gallery of major music acts are offering their  services  to a Dublin concert with Phoenix Park as the top choice for the venue.

The campaign was launched yesterday as we revealed how Irish music fans cannot apply for tickets to the Hyde Park show on July 2. Now music legends want to raise awareness by holding a concert here at the same time as the other world-wide shows so fans don't miss  out. Elton John is performing just a few miles away from Phoenix
Park on July 2 at the RDS.
A source close to the star said: "I'm sure it would be  possible for  him to whizz across the city and belt out a few songs. He's also doing The Hyde Park gig that day so that would  make it  three concerts in the space of eight hours - he would love to  do  it." Meatloaf, who is headlining the Killarney Summer Fest that night, has told industry sources he would be prepared to fly to Dublin by helicopter after the show to make an appearance along with Status Quo who are also on the bill

Westlife boss Louis Walsh said he would pull out all the stops to get his band in on the action,  adding: "We're in if the show is going ahead. It would go down in  history as the biggest show ever staged in Ireland." Irish stars BellX1, Ash, Snow Patrol and the Thrills have also thrown  their hat into the ring for the show.

A spokesman for Ash said: It sounds like a great idea and  the lads would be well up for it.  Snow Patrol are performing at the Hyde Park concert but would
be  prepared to jet to Ireland later that night for an  appearance. Yesterday we revealed that Irish fans couldn't text for tickets to the Live 8 show in London. Organiser Bob Geldof's spokesman Bernard  Doherty said: We're mortified and very apologetic Only people in the UK can enter the lottery-style draw for
tickets run through phone giant O2. A Phoenix Park official said yesterday: Obviously there  would be a  lot to organise in a short space of time. But the venue is available and if it was endorsed by the Government it could happen.

Stars such as Madonna, Robbie Williams and Coldplay have  already signed  up to the London gig. Other huge concerts will be staged in
Paris and   Philadelphia.

Kian - sex abuse school horror

WESTLIFE star Kian Egan last night spoke of his devastation at the latest paedophile outrage to hit his primary school. The star said he was "shocked and bewildered" as a former teacher at St John's Primary School in Sligo was jailed for sexually abusing young boys. Kian and his bandmate Shane Filan were both pupils there.

Former Marist brother Peter White was jailed for five years on Wednesday for his sickening sex acts on kids and became the third teacher from St John's to be convicted of abuse. Kian, 25, said: "When I heard what happened to those poor kids my heart just sunk for them.

"It's devastating and bewildering that something like that would happen. The fact it went on at one time at a school I went to brings it close to home and it's very sad."

The Sligo primary school has produced some of Ireland's top success stories including former European Commissioner Ray McSharry and Aer Lingus chief executive Dermot Mannion. But Kian added: "I was never affected by anything like that when I was there.

"I had a fantastic time at the school and I could never have imagined anything like that happening. It is a superb school now and I know the current head- master who is a fantastic guy and the kids are very happy. But the things that happened in the past have come out now and obviously it's important that the victims get justice."

The shameful past of the school stretches back over 30 years. In 1989 teacher Michael Patrick Cunnane received a three-year suspended jail sentence after pleading guilty to 11 counts of incident assault between 1974 and 1981. And this March 62-year-old Christopher Cosgrove was found guilty of 180 counts of sexually assaulting pupils between 1968 and 1977. He was jailed for eight years.

Westlife's World Cup Glory Bid: Band aim to sing official Irish song.
The Mirror (London, England); 5/27/2005 Byline: by PAUL MARTIN

WESTLIFE are being lined up to record Ireland's official World Cup anthem if the team qualifies for the tournament next summer. The FAI is desperate for the group to send the squad off to Germany with a bang if Brian Kerr's men make it to soccer's biggest party. And speaking exclusively to the Irish Mirror last night, singer Shane Filan said: "Our message to the FAI is come and get us - we want to sing the World Cup song."

The soccer-mad stars have booked three weeks off next June so they can travel to Germany if Ireland qualify. And the record-breaking singers want to write and record a chart- topping anthem paying tribute to Roy Keane and the boys. Shane added: "Of course we would love to sing Ireland's song - it would be amazing. In the past smaller bands have recorded Irish World Cup songs but it would be great to do something really big and send the lads off to Germany with a great song.

"We all love football and singing is our big thing - so it's the perfect combination."

An FAI insider said: "Obviously the team still has to qualify but if they do there's no bigger pop band to sing the official song.

"It's great to hear that the band are up for it, so fingers crossed." HERE'S a few Westlife songs that could send the team on their way - Score It Again, World (Cup) Of Our Own, Shay Whatever Keane Of My Heart and Scoring Without Wings.
