Boys' trip down memory lane

COSTUME changes, pyrotechnics, a New Kids on the Block cover and boy band dance moves - welcome to 2007, Westlife style. Though boy bands are no longer the chart force they once were, this group of four Irishmen entertained a small but enthusiastic crowd at the Entertainment Centre. An early technical glitch – Shane's microphone dropped out in during first song Total Eclipse of the Heart – proved there would be no lip syncing embarrassment – a la Ashlee Simpson as the four boys worked their way through covers, old hits and songs from their new The Love Album.

The night's highlight was a trip down boy band memory lane where the band paid homage to its predecessors, including New Kids on the Block, Backstreet Boys, Boyzone and Take That though the introduction to the homage wrote former member Brian McFadden out of the Westlife script. Beginning the extended medley with Backstreet's Back and New Kid's on the Block's the Right Stuff, the four Irishmen even had each of the group's dance moves down pat. One of Westlife's biggest hits, their version of Billy Joel's Uptown Girl had people on their feet dancing, while everyone sang along to recent single Raise Me Up. White suits were donned for the encore of Flying Without Wings and a cover of the Better Midler hit The Rose as a shower of sparks brought the show to an end on a down-tempo note, too soon for the cheering crowd.

Baby girl for Kerry and new husband

Kerry Katona has given birth to a baby girl. The former Atomic Kitten and new husband Mark Croft have named her Heidi Elizabeth. She was born at Warrington General Hospital weighing 5lbs. The baby was four weeks' premature and delivered by Caesarean section.

"Mother and baby are doing fine," said Katona's spokesman Max Clifford. Katona, 26, married cab driver Croft, 35, at Gretna Green on Valentine's Day. She had a sizeable bump at the wedding and Clifford said: "The baby was a little early but that wasn't too much of a surprise. Nobody believed Kerry would go to full term because she was absolutely huge. It seems the little one wanted to get out sooner rather than later." This is the third girl for Katona and her first with Croft. She already has daughters Molly, five, and Lilly Sue, four, by former husband Brian McFadden. Katona and Croft met a year ago and he proposed after three weeks.

I'm not just a Westwife

ACTRESS Jodi Albert has hit back at being called a "Westwife" claiming there's nothing that frustrates her more. The brunette has revealed she is not satisfied to stay at home and shop while boyfriend Kian Egan is out working.  The 23-year-old - who had a pop career as a teenager before moving into TV - is a star in her own right and admitted to being annoyed by claims she is just a Westwife.

Jodi said: "It really bothers me. It sounds as if I don't have my own identity. If anybody thinks my aspiration is to be a Westwife, they're wrong. At the end of the day, Kian's my boyfriend. He has a fantastic job and I want him to respect me as an actress, as a career woman. I've always been independent."

The former Hollyoaks actress also revealed how her days of posing in skimpy underwear for lads magazines are over. She added: "I hated them but had to do it. Hollyoaks promoted a very sexy image of its actresses. I don't want casting agents to think that's all I'm capable of."

And despite the bookies' odds of 9-1 that they'll get hitched this year, the 23-year-old insists she's in no rush down the aisle. She admitted: "I don't have time right now to plan a wedding. Getting married is a big dream of ours. We can't wait for that day but we're not going to rush it." Jodi admitted she was drawn to Kian because they both had similar backgrounds. She said: "He was brought up in a three-bed house. He appreciates life and we don't idolise fame.As long as Kian and I can differentiate what's real from what's not real, we won't have any problems."

It's Partner Time For Westlife Boys - 30 January 2007

THE stars continued to shine at the Childline aftershow party as they stepped out in style. The Westlife wives and partners dazzled on the arms of their pop star other halves. Oozing class, Gillian Filan, Georgina Byrne and Jodi Albert hit Lillies Bordello. Actress Jodi was the first to impress on Sunday night when she arrived in a sexy silver dress clutching her boyfriend Kian's hand. Blonde babe Gillian - mum to 18-month-old Nicole - looked fantastic as did Georgina whose baby bump could be spotted in her wrapover electric blue dress.

One onlooker said: "The Westlife Wags just seem to get even more gorgeous every year. They all looked stunning and carried themselves with class." Gay singer Mark Feehily's boyfriend Kevin McDaid even impressed in the style stakes. But also catching more than a few glances was model Glenda Gilson - her mini kilt showing off her long legs to perfection.

Childline Parties 'Banned' - 30 January 2007

SUPPORT acts performing at tonight's Childline concert have been banned from partying with the show's stars. Westlife, Shayne Ward, The Sugarbabes and McFly will enjoy a special VIP aftershow party in Lillie's Bordello - away from support acts. Organisers are desperate to avoid a repeat of last year's aftershow controversy when X Factor loser Rowetta Satchell launched a vicious verbal attack on Shayne Ward.

Last night an insider revealed how special security measures were in place to protect the big-name acts who had given their time for such a great cause. She said: "Last year Rowetta really let herself down with her behaviour. She shocked passers-by at the aftershow bash as she lay on the street, clutching a drink and cigarette. These guys were walking past and she kept shouting out, 'Oh, you're gorgeous. Get your willy out. Show us your willy. It was really embarrassing. Then she started to pull her top down as if she was about to bare her breasts. But thankfully she stopped just short of doing that. So only the A-list stars will be admitted to the VIP area this time."

The boozed-up singer then went into the nightclub and targeted Westlife hunk Shane Filan for her next outburst. She grabbed the shocked star and shouted: "That Shayne Ward is a b***ard. He's crap. He should never have won the X Factor." Tonight's concert is expected to raise EUR280,000 for Childline and will be televised on RTE 2 on Sunday, February 18, at 4.30pm. Doors will open at 7.00pm, and fans should note that no queuing at The Point will be permitted before 6.00pm.
