Take That Westlife!

HOWARD Donald launched a thinly-veiled attack on Irish chart-toppers Westlife. He said of Take That's forthcoming tour: "We don't want to be one of those bands that just sit on chairs on stage - we want to give a proper show." Gary went on: "We've watched a lot of other pop band's tours over the past couple of years and I don't think people get value for money out of them." Jason added: "Madonna and Robbie Williams are the only two great entertainers out there."

Put a poser to Westlife

POP giants Westlife are one of the biggest bands on the planet. The Irish heartthrobs have dominated the UK music scene for the past seven years, scoring a massive 13 No1s, five multi-platinum albums and selling 34 million records. And their personal lives are just as interesting. Pin-up Mark Feehily won support from fans in the summer after coming out about his long-term relationship with fellow singer Kevin McDaid. Kian Egan is dating Hollyoaks totty Jodi Albert, Shane Filan celebrated becoming a dad in August after partner Gillian gave birth to a baby girl and Nicky Byrne is married to Bertie Ahern's daughter Georgina.

Their new album, Face To Face, features a collaboration with stunning legend Diana Ross. When You Tell Me That You Love Me is out on December 12 and is a front-runner in the race to be this year's Christmas No1. The band also have close links with X Factor contestants The Conway Sisters - the Irish girl band supported the guys on tour and sung at Shane Filan's wedding two year's ago.

We are chatting to Shane, Nicky, Mark and Kian next week so if you’ve got a question for them email it to webchats@the-sun.co.uk. You may want to ask the guys what is was like working with legendary singer Diana Ross, what they really think of X Factor stars The Conway Sisters and their hectic personal lives. Please mark your emails WESTLIFE and don't forget to include your name and where you are from. Face To Face is in shops now.

New Single Out On 12th December

Westlife’s brand new single ‘When You Tell Me That You Love Me’ will be released on 12th December, and is the bookies’ favourite for Christmas number one! It’s the second single to be taken from their chart-topping album Face To Face and is a collaboration with legendary diva, Diana Ross.

Originally a hit for Ms. Ross back in 1991, the decision to record the track together came about following an introduction between Westlife and Diana Ross at a party held by Elton John. Shane says: ‘It has been a great honour and pleasure to work with Diana. The track has turned out to be one of my favourites on the album and the timing is just perfect for the release – it has that warmth and romance that all songs should have at that time of year’. The track is available to pre-order now - just click here

Westlife fury at Walsh's 'X Factor' snub

Westlife are unhappy with plans for the X Factor winner to aim for the Christmas number one spot. The singers are hoping to hit the top of the charts for the fourteenth
time with new track, When You Tell Me That You Love Me. However, the boys now believe that their manager and X Factor judge  Louis Walsh will have a conflict of interest over who to support.

"Westlife are the jewel in Louis's crown. They made him his fortune,"  a source told The Sun. "The boys feel they should be given top priority  for Christmas because they are determined to set a record for  consecutive No 1s that will never be beaten. Louis sometimes spreads himself too thin. He is preoccupied with X  Factor and the lads feel he should pay more attention to them."

Trouble ... Westlife

WESTLIFE are not afraid to throw a wobbly – this time at manager LOUIS WALSH. The boys have got the hump because they feel the X Factor judge has a conflict of interest over the battle for Christmas No 1 — and is not pushing them enough. If luck favours Louis, four of his acts could be scrapping for top spot on December 25 — classical crooners G4, GIRLS ALOUD, Westlife and, potentially, the winner of this year’s X Factor. But KIAN EGAN, MARK FEEHILY, SHANE FILAN and NICKY BYRNE, who had their 13th No 1 last month, reckon all his efforts should be focused on promoting them.

A festive hit with new track When You Tell Me That You Love Me would mean a record 14 consecutive No 1 singles for the lads. A source tells me: “Westlife are the jewel in Louis’s crown. They made him his fortune. The boys feel they should be given top priority for Christmas because they are determined to set a record for consecutive No 1s that will never be beaten.

“Louis sometimes spreads himself too thin. He is preoccupied with X Factor and the lads feel he should pay more attention to them.” Louis has been tied up judging the hit ITV show and grooming the show’s answer to JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE — Manc entertainer SHAYNE WARD. And Westlife have another problem — THE CHOIRBOYS pose a serious chart threat with their debut single. BEN INMAN, CJ PORTER-THAW and PATRICK ASPBURY release a charity cover of ERIC CLAPTON’s Tears In Heaven on December 19.

The cheeky youngsters have issued the boyband with a sing-off challenge — and have threatened to chuck eggs at Westlife’s tour bus if they chicken out. Ben said: “We could learn ten Westlife songs in five minutes, they couldn’t sing any of ours.

“We would take them on any day in a sing-off. We would jump on their backs and crush them. Then we’d egg their bus.” Harsh words... But there is a silver lining to Westlife’s woes. They have been invited with Louis and pop svengali SIMON COWELL to DIANA ROSS’s New Year bash to sort out final details of a duet with MICHAEL JACKSON.

The FLYING WITHOUT WINGS boyband have been invited to DIANA ROSS' New Year's Eve bash, where they expect to mingle with musical greats including the THRILLER hitmaker.

Band member NICKY BYRNE enthuses, "That would be a great way to see in the New Year. Diana's having a party that he'll be at this New Year's Eve and hopefully we'll be there. Maybe next year we'll work with him, who knows."

Westlife to Perform at Kyalami During Altech Grand Masters

To celebrate the inaugural race of the Altech Grand Prix Masters, international boy band, WESTLIFE will be performing on 13 November at Kyalami with some of South Africa¡¦s TOP IDOLS and SWALLOW FIFTEEN. Relaxed, refreshed and bursting with energy, Westlife, the quiet superstars of the mainstream UK music scene, bounce back with their new album 'Face To Face.' It's a World that they have dominated for seven years and the album features all the hallmarks of that reign ¡V a collection of classic songs and future standards. In brief, 'Face To Face' finds Westlife doing what they've always done best.

After a brief interlude with their Rat Pack album of classic song sung in the style of Sinatra, 'Face To Face' is Westlife's first collection of new songs since 'Turnaround' topped the charts in 2003. "I think this album shows that Westlife are back in a big way. It's got the best material we've ever released," says Shane confidently Agrees Nicky: "At the time Turnaround seemed like one of our best albums ¡V and this one feels even better."

A familiar blend of big ballads and mid-tempo tunes, balanced by the occasional up-tempo song, 'Face To Face' presents Westlife playing to their strengths - passionate vocals and memorable tunes. It's a straightforward formula that's been winning hearts and ears since the dawn of popular music, from the doo-wop days of the Platters, through the timeless harmonies of the Drifters and Coasters, to the slick modern sounds of Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC, Take That and Boyzone. But no one's done it with so much success as Westlife - 44 million album sales are testament to that! Their much anticipated new album will be released in SA shores on 1  November and includes a spectacular collaboration with DIVA Diana Ross.

Westlife Proves Boy Bands Still Hot In the UK

With the relatively lackluster sales of the Backstreet Boys' comeback album Never Gone, many US pop pundits are declaring an end to the success of boy bands in the pop music world. However, no one notified UK pop fans that boy bands are over.

This week the UK pop charts show Irish boy band Westlife entering the pop singles chart at #1 with "You Raise Me Up," their 13th #1 pop hit since 1999. Westlife's only hit single in the US has been "Swear It Again" which reached #20 in 2000. In addition, the abovementioned Backstreet Boys are entering the UK pop singles chart at #8 with their song "I Just Want You To Know." The sweet pop harmonies of boy bands are a welcome presence on the radio and in stores in the UK. Will there be a new wave of popularity at some point in the US? Stay tuned.

Westlife number one

Pop giants Westlife are in number one position for the 13th time in their career. Shane, Nicky, Mark and Kian are number one in Ireland and Britain with their latest single "You Raise Me Up", a ballad penned by Irishman Brendan Graham. The news came over the weekend that the band's latest release went straight to the number one spot both in Ireland and Britain.

The foursome have enjoyed 13 number ones since their debut single "Swear It Again" went straight to the top of the charts in May 1999. The group received a rapturous welcome in Dublin for a signing last week. And it seems that those who have been predicting their demise are well off the mark as the band are stronger than ever. Their latest album "Face to Face" is going to be a big seller for Christmas and is bound to make a good stocking filler. Other well-known songs on the album include "When You Tell Me That You Love Me" a duet with Diana Ross, "Desperado" and "Amazing".

News Of Westlife

Poor old Robbie Williams. First his single 'Tripping' doesn't make it to the top of the charts and now his album, Intensive Care, is going to be knocked off the top spot by Westlife. It's only been there for a week which is pretty poor showing for the Robster, especially when his album is chock full of new material and most of Westlife's tracks are covers. See, that's the power of the grannies for you.

Westlife goes on

Westlife are threatening to take over the entire pop world in the coming months, having claimed the UK Number One single last weekend. The Irish boyband displaced the Arctic Monkeys on Sunday, with their  current single "You Raise Me Up" and are also set to claim the top spot on the album chart this weekend.

According to first day sales, their new album, "Face To Face", sold almost 70,000 copies on day of release yesterday, which will be enough to dethrone Robbie Williams on Sunday. If they do overhaul Robbie's "Intensive Care", it will give the quartet  their fifth chart-topping album in six years.

Meanwhile, Westlife have also been installed as favourites for this year's Christmas Number One, with their Diana Ross duet "When You Tell Me That You Love Me". Currently heading the field for the hallowed festive top spot with odds  of 4-1, their closest rivals are Crazy Frog, James Blunt, Tony  Christie, Robbie and The Choir Boys. It's also been reported there will be further competition for Westlife  in the shape of The Pogues' Christmas classic, "Fairytale In New York",  which is apparently going to be re-released.

Easy Tiger

He's had to stare down the dark side of an ogre (or Louis Walsh, as his mum calls him) for years, so we're betting Westlife's Nicky Byrne can easily handle a tiger. The Irish stool-warmer has had a tiger adopted as a present from his wife, Georgina, to mark his 27th birthday.

Don't worry though, Westlife fans, there's little chance that Nicky will be mauled by the beast. He told the Daily Star: "I'll probably never meet him but you pay money to a charity and they send you updates on how he's doing. I haven't named him yet." Oooh! Name him Louis!
