Shane sings on for the baby
WESTLIFE star Shane Filan is determined the band will be around for many
years to come so his baby daughter Nicole can see them in action. Shane, 26, and
his bandmates threatened to quit last year if their album Face To Face was not a
big hit. It was a huge success and he says they are more committed to the band's
long-term future than ever.
Shane said: "We want to be doing this in five years. We're so excited about the
response to this album - it shows people still want us. I look forward to the
future a lot and having Nicole makes me want to work much harder for her. I'd
love nothing more than for Nicole to come to a gig and see daddy on stage in a
few years."
Shane and the lads have all settled down with their respective partners - Nicky
is married to Georgina Ahern, Kian lives with actress Jodi Albert and Mark is
with V singer Kevin McDaid. Nicole will be paying her first visit to Scotland
when Westlife perform at Glasgow's SECC on May 5, 6 and 7 and the AECC in
Aberdeen on May 9 and 10. Shane said: "Nicole won't be at the concerts as she's
too young but it will be nice to know she and my wife Gillian are waiting at the
hotel."

Westlife's fury over gay jibes
MARRIED Westlife hunks Shane Filan and Nicky Byrne are furious at a cheeky
website that says they'd make a great gay couple. The straight stars were
stunned to discover that the site is comparing them to gay pop ex-lovers Stephen
Gately and Eloy De Jong. Nicky, who is married to the Taoiseach's daughter
Georgina Ahern, and Shane who has just had a baby with wife Gillian are
understood to be considering legal action.
The 'shnicky.com' claims to offer evidence that they could have a fantastic
relationship - and lists TV appearances when they appeared to be more than just
band mates. And it only adds in the small print that the site is fictional and
that the singers are straight. A source close to the stars last night revealed:
"The people running this site might be doing it for a joke but Shane and Nicky
won't see the funny side

News helps to save the day for Westlife fans
MUSIC fans hoping to book tickets for top boy band Westlife's summer
appearance at Newmarket racecourse were disappointed when the ticket line
number was not answered.
After the News pointed out the problem, racecourse bosses called in BT
engineers to sort it out.
Gaynor Haxby, marketing manager for the racecourse, said: "We weren't
aware there was a problem until the News called. Thank you for alerting
us.
"That number - 08707 200201 - normally goes through to our call centre
which is not staffed at this time of year although the calls should be
diverted through to our office. That has not been happening and I don't
know why. I am optimistic that it will be sorted out quickly, but in the
meantime people can call our office (01638) 675500 or book online at the
website www.newmarketracecourses.co.uk. We have taken lots of bookings already so people must have been
getting through earlier."
Readers contacted the News after calling the 08707 number, which was
given in a report about Westlife and other acts due to perform at the
Newmarket Nights series of evening race meetings followed by pop concerts.

Westlife go east
CHART-TOPPERS Westlife have joined the line-up of acts entertaining Newmarket
race goers this summer. The four Irish lads, who have had a record breaking
seven consecutive number one hits, are the latest act to be announced for the
popular Newmarket Nights when evening race meetings are followed by pop
concerts. They are due to appear on Friday, August 18, the final show in a
series of seven during the summer. The band, Kian Egan, Shane Filan, Nicky Byrne
and Mark Feehily, are following in the footsteps of co-manager Ronan Keating,
who was the top act at the racecourse last year - tickets sold out weeks in
advance of his performance. They are currently short listed for a third Brit
award and are in the top 20 with Diana Ross with When You Tell Me that You Love
Me.
The racecourse has already announced that Texas will play on Friday, August
4, with popular racecourse regulars Status Quo on Friday, June 30, and
Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra on Friday, August 11.The
summer race fixtures at the July Racecourse regularly attract capacity
crowds of 19,000. As well as Ronan Keating, Status Quo and Jools Holland also
played to sell-out audiences last summer. Performers for the remaining three
nights this year have yet to be announced. Last year's line-up included
Pop Idol winner Will Young, Lucie Silvas and ex-Blue singer Lee Ryan, who
stepped in at short notice after former Westlife star Bryan McFadden
pulled out because of a knee injury. The Nights have become a major feature of
the racecourse's summer programme, with more mainstream pop acts being
booked. When the series started about 30 years ago the music was mainly
provided by tribute bands and the remains of 1960 and 70s groups. Bookings for
the Nights have already opened, with ticket prices ranging from£11 to £32.
The racecourse ticket line is (08707) 200201.
Stephen Gately's Kelly crush
Gay singer Stephen Gately has confessed he secretly fancies Kelly Osbourne. The
former 'Boyzone' star - who has a boyfriend - thinks the wild child is beautiful
and is obsessed with her smooth skin. He revealed to Britain's Hot Stars
magazine: "I have a secret crush on Kelly Osbourne. I've met her a few times and
she has the most amazing skin I've ever seen."
Gately is not the only gay pop star to have a crush on a famous woman.
Westlife's Mark Feehily admits he would prefer to bed Angelina Jolie than her
lover Brad Pitt - despite the fact he is gay. The heartthrob star says he still
fancies women - especially the pregnant 'Tomb Raider' beauty - but can't be
bothered to act on his masculine urges for females any more. He revealed:
"I have dated girls in the past and enjoyed it. I fancied girls - I still
fancy girls. I really fancy Angelina Jolie, but I just don't want to do anything
about it any more.
"Brad Pitt is very good looking but he's not my type. Generally I prefer
everyday blokes."
