HOMECOMING CONCERT - SLIGO JULY 2003
BEX
The first person I met that had anything to do with Westlife was Mark's lovely mum & his little brother Colin. I had just experienced the awesome homecoming concert & had arranged to meet up with friends by the stage at the end.
As I was leaning against the stage a much younger version of Mark walked past (nice bandana!!) accompanied by a lady who smiled & said hello - imagine it please Mark's mum smiling & speaking to me ( I did come over all light headed at this point & missed all the others walking past). We then made our way into Sligo town to where we believed the after show party would be held, then we waited & waited & waited!!
The first people to arrive were Shane & Bryan but as usual Bryan was in one of his splendid moods & just pushed past muttering some foul mouthed outburst. I was actually quite shocked but over the past few months have realised this is nothing unusual where he is concerned.Shane on the other hand was a complete sweetie who stood for ages having his pic taken & signing autographs. I managed to get a pic of him looking a bit startled but unfortunately when I took it my camera decided to break ( so Mr.Filan you broke my lens). Afterwards he had to walk past me to get into the venue & that is when I got my chance to speak to him, he shook my hand & agreed to a kiss (Sandy don't kill me please xx)
Then after all the years of dreaming and hoping Mark turned up and he looked stunning. I do actually have a pic of him taken that night but as it is not mine I do not feel that I can share it publicly.Any way as there was no chance I could get near him I decided to stand close to the entrance & lean against the wall. Finally he made his way to the door and as I smiled he lent over & took my hand & had a lovely chat with me (Pure heaven girls!!!) Then he went inside & I was ready to leave but decided to wait to see Nicky & Kian.
Unfortunately, Louis Walsh came downstairs & informed us all that Nicky had gone straight back to Dublin but he thanked us all for supporting the lads & I must admit he was quite cute up close, lol.Last to arrive was Kian, who turned up walking between a gang of friends, it nearly worked but someone mentioned his name (no comments please) and he got stopped before he got to the door.We then headed off to a nightclub but decided to go back to our B&B as I had travelled to Sligo after finishing a night shift & was having trouble to stay awake.
LISA & LAURA REMEMBERED AT WESTLIFE GIG
|
Westlife dedicated one of their most famous songs to the memories of Lisa & Laura Keane, who died in a house fire. Before singing the hit Flying Without Wings, Kian Egan said "This is a special cause. I would urge you to put your hand in your pocket and give some money to this family. This is Sligo, let's stay together as a community". The band performed the song in front of 20,000 people at their homecoming concert in Markievicz Park last Friday. Lisa (11) and Laura (6) died in a house fire which broke out on Saturday 5 July in their home in the Glendallon Estate. Their brother Patrick (10) who suffered severe injuries in the blaze has since been released from hospital. He is recovering well from his ordeal. An appeal committee was set up soon after the tragedy. Frances Kelly of the Keane Appeal Committee said "To hear them sing that song was a very moving experience. We are grateful that we were allowed to bring collection buckets into the venue". |
