5 miles long and 2 miles wide, surrounded on three sides by
wooded mountain slopes, and connected to Sligo town by a 2 mile stretch of
river.
In the lake itself the most prominent islands are the beautifully wooded Cottage Island, with the ruins of an ancient Church, the larger Church Island also with the remains of a Church, and the tiny island of Innisfree.
