SPORT

favourite sports:- Surfing, basketball and football

"When I was younger I played Gaelic football and a bit of basket ball, but I was never really a soccer player as I wasn’t that good. Gaelic football was my sport because nobody would get in my way! It was that type of thing “ Get outta the way or I’ll bust you.”

GENERAL HOBBIES

Hobbies:- music, snooker, pitch and putt and shopping
Instruments:- guitar and piano

MUSIC
"I think my family influenced me musically. When I was growing up there was a violin playing in one room, a piano playing in another room, there was an a electric guitar, there was a bass guitar. There was just this array of instruments coming out of the house."

Kian The Rock God 17/05/02
When oldsters magazine Q caught up with Westlife on tour Kian let slip his musical tastes. He told their roving reporting, "I'm sick of people thing we're just another pop band. I'm a rock fan. I listen to Metallica and Faith No More. I play a mean electric guitar." And he's not the only Westlife rocker. Bryan also revealed that he's been secretly writing songs for a rock band. For other confessions and pictures - including Bryan's tattoos and his take on recent pop slits (Five, Steps and Boyzone all hated each other apparently)

All the Egan clan are musical

Piano
Kian's elder brother, Gavin is a music teacher and taught Kian to play piano from an early age. If he hadn't have succeeded with Westlife he would have considered a career teaching piano

Guitar
"When I was about ten, I dreamed of being a rock star. I started playing the guitar and actually taught myself before I had any proper lessons. I used to love rock bands like Metallica, Guns 'N' Roses, Iron Maiden and Bon Jovi, and I was always practising loud guitar solos and jamming with friends."

Gym/Weight Training

Poetry
"When I was four, I went in for my first talent competition. They're a big tradition in our country and kids get to perform anything they want: poetry reading, singing, dancing, playing an instrument; you can do just about anything. At the first one I recited a poem called whispers at a hotel in Sligo. I won and still have the little trophy."
